Zambezi River. Zambia
Chongwe River Lodge is ideally situated on the confluence of the Chongwe and The Zambezi Rivers. The Chongwe River is the natural border of the Chiawa Game Management Area and The Lower Zambezi National Park overlooking Mana Pools National Park
This spectacular lodge of eight en-suite, tented chalets lies under a complete canopy of huge Winterthorn trees on the site twice used by David Livingstone on his travels.
Apart from game drives and walking safaris Chongwe offers some of the best fishing waters on this stretch of the Lower Zambezi. Several well maintained boats are available for fishing with any of the lodges experienced guides. The steep banks and numerous islands on this section of river offer the fly fisherman an excellent chance of landing several sizeable tiger fish per outing.
Guided walks along the bank in national park can also produce some very exciting fishing with spinners or fly.
The river produces good fish all year round with large fish being caught from April into the winter months. September to November are the most popular months with the warmer water making the tiger fish more aggressive in their feeding habits.
